This week i've quickly been looking at RSS feeds week 5. I added the following feeds: librarian.net, resourceshelf, the shifted librarian, slq license 2 test drive. Its always good to see what other people are up to in an area that interests you, without it clogging up your inbox. Some of the feeds i looked at seem to be from patrons and the information wasn't reall useful.
It gave me an insight into what some of our patrons are using and it this knowledge will hopefully make it easier for me to answer their questions. In my secondment position i will needs a much more in depth look at rss feeds to truly understand all their benefits. So i'm glad i've started and i can keep going back to bloglines to keep current with what is happening. It's also a good place to view others ideas to see what has worked in terms of public programs in web 2.0 etc.
Perhaps in the workplace it would be beneficial to have different staff members with different feeds relevant to our tasks but still useful to others and then we could share some of the information via e-mail or at staff meetings.
It seems that it might take a while to set up the feeds in all your subject areas but once set up the information just comes straight to you saving you the ongoing searching.
